Director: Antoine Fugua

This is an action formula flick, that tries to follow the Bourne model and steals dialogue from a variety of movies, but in the end they still do a decent job of providing an action fix for a couple hours, thanks to Mark Wahlberg and some good authentic scenes.
Wahlberg is a sniper who retires after being betrayed in the name of security and losing his partner (original idea there). He is living quietly in the mountains when he is approached to help protect the president from an assassination attempt by offering his expertise in long range shooting. He reluctantly agrees and soon finds himself framed for the crime he was brought in to prevent. Next, he has to figure out what happened, prove his innocence and get revenge all the while he is the subject of a massive manhunt. He even finds some time for romance. In Hollywood there is always time for romance.
This is an uneven effort, that starts with a completely cliché opening, picks up in the middle but goes too far and too long at the end. Despite these weaknesses, the strength of good action scenes, decent acting and some interesting technical detail makes it suitable fare for action fans. Less discriminating action junkies will love it.
